"I recently came across this passage written by the journalist and professor David Brooks:

"A key job of a school is to give students new things to love- an exciting field of study,

new friends. It reminds us that what teachers really teach is themselves-their contagious

passion for subjects and students. It reminded us that children learn from people they

love, and that love in this context means willing the good of another, and offering active

care for the whole person."

The Importance of this passage for me is that it provides a portrait of Gail Okerman in her roles

as a counselor and educator. Gail is an amazing educator who takes her love for learning and

makes it contagious and passionate. She uses her skills as an educator to help her students,

no matter what age, develop a reflective practice which allows students to dive deeply into

context, as they feel safe and get caught in the contagian for learning."

- Chandler Creedon, Educational Consultant

"In the past few years, I have taken several of Gail's grad classes through the district.  Each class focuses on best practices for students through understanding and respecting the whole student.  Gail inspires creativity & passion for teaching & reaching students from early education through high school while allowing professionals to perfect their craft by creating new experiences for students outside the traditional realms of curriculum.  Gail is respectful & values the opinions & input of all while sharing her knowledge & insights into the inner workings of our youth; it's eye-opening!!!  You will not be disappointed participating in any of Gail's classes!!"

- Linda Collette

"Gail’s classes are amazing. It is because she is an outstanding human being that understands what educators and students need.  Her classes are engaging and informative. The projects you work on are so relevant and reasonable.  Gail is super supportive and flexible.  Gail’s classes have been the best ones I have taken in my career.  I love knowing I now have such a wonderful friend and resource in my life."
